Raw Roads: Invisible

Raw Material is a youth-led educational charity that uses the power of creative expression to help young people reach their full potential.
Set up in 1994, we provide a range of high quality arts experiences and participatory programmes for young people and adults in Lambeth, Greater London, the UK and internationally. Go to Raw Material main website

Raw Roads is our touring programme which includes regional and international projects. In 2015, the project aims to present a youth perspective of home and belonging; engage with the public and unconventional performances space; and enable young people to respond to current social issues through the arts.
Our team of professional music and performance artists/facilitators will take residency in 5 cities, to work with local young people and together create discussion and artistic responses that will feature in a public showcase.

We will have 4 days of workshops in each city, and on the fifth day a showcase of the materials created by the emerging young artists during the workshops and locally.

We will launch each residency with watching the short new performance piece Invisible, especially commissioned by Raw Material for this touring project.

Invisible is a short performance piece written by Radio 1 featured artist Potent Whisper with dramaturgy and direction by Shir Freibach.

An ordinary conversation hidden in plain sight. It’s so easy to walk past people and ignore moments that can change your life. Invisible tells the story of three people who feel forgotten in some way. Each person’s true identity is hidden behind some negative stereotypes in society. Music, beats, poetic writing and rhyme reveal what’s hidden behind everyday situations to suggest that despite outside appearances, we may have more in common than we usually assume.

Invisible was developed with input from young people from Act NOW, the young project run by Cardboard Citizens.
